The Ministry of External Affairs has warned Indian exporters to exercise caution when dealing with UAE-based companies.
The Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, issues an urgent advisory to Indian exporters and businesses engaged in trade with companies based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This advisory comes in response to numerous reports of fraudulent activities, payment defaults, and unethical business practices by certain UAE-based companies, particularly in the foodstuff and general trading sectors.
The companies has been flagged based on complaints received from Indian exporters and international trade partners. These companies are alleged to have engaged in fraudulent activities, including non-payment for goods, breach of contracts, and other unethical business practices.
Key Concerns
Non-Payment or Delayed Payments: Exporters have reported significant delays
or complete non-payment for goods delivered.
Contractual Breaches: Companies have failed to honour agreed-upon terms and conditions.
Lack of Transparency: Many of these companies operate with unclear business practices and limited verifiable credentials.
Difficulty in Legal Recourse: Exporters face challenges in pursuing legal action due to jurisdictional complexities.
Advisory for Indian Exporters:
Conduct Thorough Due Diligence: Verify the credentials, financial standing, and reputation of UAE-based companies before entering into any business agreements.
Use Secure Payment Methods: opt for secure payment mechanisms such as Letters of Credit (LCs) or advance payments to minimize financial risks.
Seek Legal Advice: Consult legal experts familiar with international trade laws to draft robust contracts and understand dispute resolution mechanisms.
Liaise with Indian Missions: Reach out to Indian Embassies or Consulates in the UAE for assistance and guidance when dealing with local companies.
Report Fraudulent Activities:Immediately report any suspicious or fraudulent activities to the Indian Mission in the UAE and the Ministry of External Affairs.
