CGST Faridabad Busts Unregistered Warehouse, Seizes 2.64 Lakh Kg Areca Nut Worth Rs. 3.43 Crore

Date:

In a major crackdown on tax evasion, the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Faridabad Commissionerate has uncovered an unregistered godown maintained by a transporter, where a massive stockpile of Areca Nut was being stored illegally.

Acting on specific intelligence and rigorous surveillance, authorities seized a total of 2,64,600 kg of Areca Nut, valued at approximately Rs. 3.43 crore.

Major Seizure Details:

Godown Seizure: 2,18,400 kg of Areca Nut (3,640 bags) seized from the unregistered warehouse.

Truck Interception: 46,200 kg of Areca Nut (770 bags) detained from two trucks operating without E-Way Bills.

Total Confiscated Quantity: 2,64,600 kg Areca Nut.

Modus Operandi: How the Illegal Trade Worked?

Investigations revealed that the unregistered premises were secretly functioning as a warehouse for Areca Nut. The transporter was using small trucks during the day to bring in Areca Nut mixed with household items. At night, the goods were repacked into large trucks and transported clandestinely to Madhya Pradesh without E-way Bills or valid documentation.

Legal Action and Investigation Update

The two intercepted trucks were released upon payment of duty and penalty under CGST Act, 2017.

The 218,400 kg Areca Nut worth Rs. 2.83 crore seized from the godown remains under investigation.

Authorities are probing the extent of the evasion, involvement of other entities, and potential tax fraud.
