India Revises Tariff Values For These Imported Goods Effective April 24, 2025

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) announced revised tariff values for various imported goods namely gold, silver and areca nuts.

The notification, issued under section 14 of the Customs Act, 1962, will come into force from April 24, 2025. These adjustments aim to align import duty valuations with prevailing international market rates and ensure consistency in customs assessments.

The revised tariff values cover key commodities including edible oils, precious metals like gold and silver, brass scrap, and areca nuts. These changes are based on the notification No. 36/2001-Customs (N.T.) and are published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part-II, Section-3, Sub-section (ii).

For edible oils and metal scrap (as outlined in Table-1 of the notification), there are no changes in the tariff values. Crude Palm Oil remains at USD 1153 per metric ton, while RBD Palm Oil is set at USD 1162. Other palm oil derivatives such as crude palm oil and RBD palm oil are valued at USD 1173 and USD 1176 respectively. Crude soya bean oil stands at USD 1098, and brass scrap retains its tariff value of USD 5469 per metric ton.

In Table-2, concerning precious metals, gold in any form—when benefiting from Notification No. 50/2017-Customs dated June 30, 2017—is fixed at USD 1106 per 10 grams. Silver, under the same notification, continues to be valued at USD 1045 per kilogram. This rate also applies to medallions and silver coins with silver content not below 99.9%, as well as other semi-manufactured forms under sub-heading 7106 92, provided these are not imported via post, courier, or baggage.

For gold bars other than tola bars and gold coins with purity not below 99.5%, the tariff value also remains at USD 1106 per 10 grams. The notification clarifies that “gold findings” refers to small jewelry components such as hooks, clasps, or pins used in assembly.

Table-3 of the notification sets the tariff value for areca nuts at USD 6970 per metric ton, with no revision from the previous value.

These updated values are crucial for importers as they directly affect customs duty calculations. Businesses dealing in edible oils, metal scraps, and precious metals are advised to review the revised values and ensure compliance from April 24, 2025.
