Plea Against Announcement Of Freebies In Rajasthan, MP Before Polls: Supreme Court Issues Notice

Bhattulal Jain v. Union of India |W.P.(C) No. 1044/2023

The Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan governments were asked to respond on Friday to a PIL that alleged the distribution of freebies to voters ahead of the assembly elections in both states.

Additionally, a bench made up of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra sent notifications to the Central Government, the Election Commission, and the Reserve Bank of India regarding the PIL, which also claimed that the two state governments were misusing taxpayer funds to entice votes.

Nothing could be more heinous than for the government to hand out money ahead of an election. According to the petitioner’s attorney, this occurs regularly and eventually places a burden on the taxpayers.

Send a notice. The bench stated that it was returnable after four weeks.
