Extortion & Corruption Case: Panchkula Police Arrests And CBI Summons ED Officer

Panchkula Police arrested Enforcement Directorate (ED) Assistant Director Vishal Deep in Delhi on Friday on allegations of extortion, just two days after he secured relief from arrest in a separate CBI case in Mumbai.

It is worthwhile to note that just 2 days back, a special court in Mumbai rejected the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) remand application of Enforcement Directorate (ED) Assistant Director Vishal Deep, who was arrested in connection with the bribery case.

The arrest came after Vikas Bansal, a Panchkula resident, accused Deep of threatening and extorting his family in collaboration with Rohit Gujjar, an alleged member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. In his complaint, Bansal alleged that the duo demanded Rs. 50 lakh and issued threats to harm him and his family if they failed to comply.

Vikas Bansal is the brother of Rajnish Bansal, Chairman of the Himalayan Group of Professional Institutions, who had previously filed a corruption complaint against Deep with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). According to Vikas, the threats began on January 3 when his nephew received a WhatsApp call from a man claiming to be Rohit Gujjar. The caller reportedly threatened the family, demanding they withdraw the corruption complaint or face dire consequences.

Over subsequent days, the threats escalated, with multiple calls and messages detailing specific information about the family’s residence in Kurukshetra. Bansal accused Vishal Deep of orchestrating the threats. As evidence, he submitted screenshots of WhatsApp chats and audio recordings to the police, resulting in the registration of an FIR against both Gujjar and Deep under Sections 308(2) and 308(4) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Police Station 14, Panchkula.

CBI Summons Vishal Deep in Corruption Investigation

Separately, the Central Bureau of Investigation has summoned Vishal Deep for questioning in the corruption case filed against him. He has been directed to appear at the CBI’s Chandigarh office on January 11 at 3 PM. The case is being investigated under the leadership of Deputy SP Prakash Chand.
