AAP leader Satyendar Jain’s Bail Request will not be Deferred; CJI

Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud said that the relevant judge will make the decision on Thursday when the hearing on AAP leader Satyendar Kumar Jain’s bail request in a money laundering case scheduled before a different bench led by Justice Bela M. Trivedi was adjourned.

Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing Jain, who is out on interim bail, urged a bench made up of Justice Trivedi, Justice J B Pardiwala, and Justice Manoj Misra to postpone the planned hearing on his plea by the Justice Trivedi-led bench later in the day.

Singhvi stated that the case has been referred to a bench that does not include Justice A. S. Bopanna after the bench made up of Justice Trivedi and Justice Bopanna heard extensive arguments in the case.

“We are requesting a postponement. The senior attorney said, “If you (the CJI) could kindly see the case papers once.”

“I won’t interfere with the judge in question’s decision-making regarding the case that is on the schedule. The decision will be made by the judge assigned to the case. I am unable to. I’m unable to answer calls,” the CJI stated.

Jain is presently on temporary bail due to health concerns; he had petitioned the top court for bail.

The former Delhi minister was granted interim bail on May 26 by the top court for a period of six weeks due to medical reasons; this bail has since been periodically extended.
