Man Sentenced to Ten Years in Prison for Attacking College Girls with Acid

A man found guilty of throwing acid on college girls has been sentenced to ten years of hard labour by the Madurai Mahila Court.

Tirumangalam resident S Sankaranarayanan has been sentenced to ten years of hard labor. He doled out acid to two college students in 2014, close to the college in Tirumangalam.

Meena and Angaleshwari, who had 25% and 15% burns, respectively, were treated at Government Rajaji Hospital.

According to officials, the court noted that a lenient approach to sentencing was inappropriate in this case due to the nature of the case and the physical and mental suffering endured by the two women. Instead, a severe punishment was necessary.

They also said that it fined the accused ₹40,000.
