Three Arrested in Conversion case, Naib Tehsildar Removed

According to officials in Hamirpur, Naib Tehsildar Ashish Gupta was fired on Thursday and attached to the collectorate after it was discovered during an initial investigation that he had broken the employee code. Gupta allegedly converted to Islam in order to marry a Muslim woman.

Aarti, the wife of Gupta, named the other three accused in the FIR; they were detained and imprisoned for their role in facilitating the religious conversion. To find the Muslim woman Gupta was allegedly seeing, the police were conducting raids at various locations.

The employee code and service rules were found to be broken by the naib tehsildar, according to ADM, Hamirpur Dr. Arun Mishra. He declared, “He has been removed as Naib Tensildar of Maudaha & attached to the collectorate till further notice,” and added that the government had received a report on his behavior.

Gupta, who was assigned to Maudaha in September of this year, courted controversy three days ago when Mohammad Mushtaq, the mosque’s caretaker, revealed that a non-Muslim was arriving to pray in the persona of Muhammad Yusuf. He identified himself as a Naib Tehsildar when questioned.

While the administration ordered the Tehsildar to investigate Gupta, his spouse claimed he was coerced into becoming a Muslim in order to wed a Muslim woman. She filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the Maudaha police, citing Sections 3/5 (1) and 5 (2) of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act against five named and six unnamed individuals.

The police detained Asghar Ali of Bahraich, Kutibuddin Siddiqui, also known as Munna, and the caretaker of the mosque, Muhammad Mushtaq. Before being taken to jail, each of them had a medical examination.

Additionally, the administration filed a Section 494 FIR against the naib tehsildar. Since arrests are not made in cases involving sentences of less than seven years, he has been placed in the care of his family members.

According to SP Hamirpur Diksha Sharma, there is still work being done to determine whether or not the marriage actually happened. She stated, “Efforts are being made to arrest his woman friend, and the official has been placed in the custody of his family members in accordance with the rules.”
