The officers of the Coimbatore CGST Commissionerate uncovered a large-scale case of clandestine gold and jewellery supply without the issuance of invoices.
Acting on intelligence, multiple searches were conducted at wholesale and retail jewellery firms in Pollachi and Coimbatore.
The investigation revealed the use of dual software-one for GST-invoiced transactions and another for unaccounted supplies-pointing to deliberate tax evasion. A significant shortage of 31 kg of gold and 409 kg of silver was detected, and further inquiry indicated that over 305 kg of gold had been supplied without GST, resulting in an estimated tax evasion of Rs. 6.53 crores.
Following these findings, a partner of one of the firms, was arrested.

This landmark agreement is expected to provide substantial benefits to importers and exporters of both nations enrolled in the AEO program, ensuring smoother customs clearances, reduced compliance costs, and enhanced trade facilitation.
The signing of the MRA comes less than a year after the Joint Action Plan was agreed upon, highlighting the strong diplomatic and trade ties between India and New Zealand. The agreement underscores CBIC’s commitment to fostering international partnerships while maintaining stringent security and compliance standards.
