What is Input Tax Credit in GST With Example?

The short form of Input Tax Credit in GST is ITC. The term ‘Input Tax Credit’ or ‘ITC’ means the Goods and Services Tax (GST) paid by a taxable person on any purchase of goods and/or services that are used or will be used for business. Input ITC can be reduced from the GST payable on the sales by the taxable person only after fulfilling some conditions.
For example- you are a manufacturer: Tax payable on output (final product) is Rs 450. Tax paid on input (purchases) is Rs 300. You can claim input credit of Rs 300 and deposit the rest Rs 150 as taxes in cash.

How to check input tax credit in GST portal?

Log in to the GST website using your credentials. Click on the “Services” button, then on “Ledgers”, and then click on “Electronic Credit Ledger”. On the Electronic Credit Ledger page, you will be able to check the input tax credit balance as of today’s date as well as Blocked Credit Balance and Provisional Credit Balance.

Can I get input tax credit in GST if supplier filed GSTR-1 after due date?
