Silchar, March 26, 2025 – In a major crackdown on counterfeit currency, the officers of the Central Paramilitary Forces (CPF), Silchar, in coordination with Assam Rifles personnel, seized Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) with a face value of ₹37.90 lakh on the Silchar-Jiribam road in Assam. The operation took place near Arkatipur, where the team intercepted an SUV carrying the counterfeit notes.
According to officials, a total of 100 bundles of fake Rs. 500 denomination notes were recovered from the vehicle. Acting on intelligence inputs, security forces stopped the SUV and conducted a thorough search, leading to the discovery of the counterfeit currency.
One person has been arrested in connection with the case. Authorities are investigating the suspect’s links to organized counterfeit currency networks, which are known to operate in the region. The origin of the fake notes and their intended distribution points are also under scrutiny.
Counterfeit currency remains a significant threat to India’s financial system, with such rackets often linked to cross-border smuggling networks. Security agencies have intensified their vigilance along sensitive routes to curb such illegal activities.
Further investigation is underway to trace other individuals involved in the syndicate. Officials have assured that stringent action will be taken against those responsible for this illicit trade.
