The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has elected CA. Charanjot Singh Nanda and CA. Prasanna Kumar D as New ICAI President and Vice President respectively for Council Year 2025-26.

Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State (I/C) for Law & Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, GoI administered the oath of office to CA. Charanjot Singh Nanda and CA. Prasanna Kumar D as the New President and Vice President of ICAI for the Council Year 2025-26.

About ICAI President : CA. Charanjot Singh Nanda

CA. Charanjot Singh Nanda has been a distinguished leader in the accounting profession, bringing decades of expertise and commitment to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). He has served as a Central Council Member of ICAI from 2019 to 2022, as well as from 2004 to 2016, contributing significantly to the institute’s growth and governance. Throughout his career, he has held several key positions, currently serving as the Chairman of the Internal Audit Standards Board and the Committee on Management Accounting, along with being the Vice Chairman of the Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Committee.

His contributions to the financial and regulatory landscape of India have been immense. He was previously the Vice Chairman of the Corporate Social Responsibility Committee and the Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance Committee of ICAI. CA. Nanda has played a crucial role in shaping regulatory frameworks as a nominated member of the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India’s (IRDA) Steering Committee for the implementation of the Risk-Based Capital (RBC) regime. He was also a member of the Quality Review Board set up by the Government of India, ensuring high standards of audit quality and governance.

Over the years, CA. Nanda has chaired several influential committees within ICAI, including the Committee on Internal Audit, the Committee for Members in Industry, and the Women Members Empowerment Committee. His leadership extended to the Committee on Public Finance & Government Accounting and SAFA’s (South Asian Federation of Accountants) Committee on Transparency, Accountability, and Governance. He has also played a pivotal role in professional education and research, having been the Chairman of the Professional Education Committee, the Research Committee, and the Professional Development Committee of ICAI.

His expertise in financial markets and investor protection is reflected in his tenure as Chairman of ICAI’s Committee on Banking, Insurance & Pensions, Committee on Financial Markets & Investors’ Protection, and Committee for Cooperatives & NPO Sectors. He has actively contributed to SEBI’s regulatory framework, serving as a Member of SEBI’s Advisory Committees on the Primary Market and Mutual Funds (2007-2010) and representing ICAI in the SEBI Committee on Disclosures and Accounting Standards (SCODA). Additionally, he was the Convener of the Expert Group constituted by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs on Investor Protection.

His journey within ICAI began at the regional level, where he served as a member of the Northern India Regional Council (NIRC) for two terms (1998-2001 and 2001-2004), later becoming its Chairman (2002-2003) and Treasurer for three terms. His extensive experience in leadership roles within ICAI and regulatory bodies has made a lasting impact on the accounting profession. As the new President of ICAI, CA. Charanjot Singh Nanda brings a vision of excellence, transparency, and professional development, aiming to further strengthen the institute’s role in the national and global financial ecosystem.

About ICAI Vice President : CA Prasanna Kumar D 

CA. Prasanna Kumar D has been elected as the Vice-President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for the 2025-26 term. He has been a member of the Central Council of ICAI from 2019 to 2025. In the 2024-2025 term, he served as the Chairman of the Peer Review Board, and in 2023-2024, he was the Chairman of the Professional Development Committee. Between 2019 and 2023, he was a member of all standing committees, including the Executive Committee, Finance Committee, Examination Committee, and Disciplinary Committee. Additionally, he served as the Presiding Officer of the Board of Discipline from 2020 to 2023.
