Know Chandra Prakash Goyal A New Principal Chief Commissioner In CBIC

The Government of India has officially empaneled and promoted senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, Chandra Prakash Goyal to the post of Principal Chief Commissioner / Principal Director General of Customs & Indirect Taxes under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC). 

Who Is IRS Chandra Prakash Goyal?

A 1991-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer from the Customs and Indirect Taxes cadre, Shri Goyal brings a wealth of experience spanning Customs, Service Tax, Central Excise, and Tax Policy. His distinguished career includes key roles in Delhi and Mumbai Customs, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), NACIN, and the Customs Policy Wing of CBIC.

Notably, Shri Goyal has also served twice as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to a CBIC Member, providing strategic insights at the highest policy-making levels. Additionally, his tenure as Chief Controller of Factories at the Government Opium and Alkaloid Works in Neemuch and Ghazipur reflects his versatility in administration.

Since August 2023, he has been leading CGST, Central Excise, and Customs operations in the Bhopal Zone as Chief Commissioner. Recognized for his exemplary service, he was honored with the Presidential Award for Distinguished Record of Service in 2008.

Beyond his administrative prowess, Shri Goyal is an accomplished author and educator. He has co-authored the book “SEZ and EOUs: Law and Procedure” (2003) and developed nearly 100 e-books on Customs, Excise, and Service Tax, extensively used for training departmental officers. His contributions as a faculty member for the World Customs Organization’s (WCO) Global Shield Programme further highlight his expertise in international customs security.

With his appointment as Principal Chief Commissioner, Shri Goyal is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping tax policy and enforcement, strengthening compliance frameworks, and driving efficiency within CBIC.
